Journal History

Tribakti: Jurnal Pemikiran Keislaman has been in publication for 35 years, producing 35 volumes with an average of 16 to 20 articles per volume. The journal was first published in print in 1989 under the name Tribakti: Jurnal Pemikiran dan Kebudayaan Islam. At that time, it was primarily intended for the academic community of Universitas Islam Tribakti Kediri, targeting local readers, and it had not yet obtained an ISSN. In 2001, the journal secured its print ISSN and was officially renamed Tribakti: Jurnal Pemikiran Keislaman.

In 2015, the journal obtained its online ISSN and began its first digital publication. Several print editions prior to 2015 were also uploaded to ensure wider access and visibility. Along with this transition, Tribakti continuously improved its editorial management and internationalization efforts, with all publication processes now fully conducted online. These improvements include enhancements in manuscript formatting standards, editorial workflow, and volume-issue management in order to strengthen publication quality and professionalism.

As part of its internationalization strategy, Tribakti achieved a significant milestone on July 27, 2022, when it was indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). This achievement reflects the journal’s commitment to open-access scholarly communication and international visibility. Since 2023, the journal has also intensified its efforts toward broader indexing and recognition by reputable international indexing agencies, as part of its long-term development roadmap.

In terms of national accreditation, Tribakti has shown a consistent upward trajectory. On April 23, 2019, the journal was accredited at Rank 4 (Sinta 4) based on the decree of the Director-General of Higher Education No. 14/E/KPT/2019. Seven months later, it advanced to Rank 3 (Sinta 3) according to the decree of the Director-General of Research and Higher Education No. 36/E/KPT/2019. Most recently, Tribakti successfully achieved accreditation in the National Journal Accreditation (Arjuna) with an impressive Rank 2 (Sinta 2) status in 2024, in accordance with the Decision of the Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, bearing Decision No. 177/E/KPT/2024.

Entering 2025, Tribakti: Jurnal Pemikiran Keislaman refined its academic direction by strengthening its focus and scope toward critical and transformative issues in contemporary Islamic scholarship. This development is particularly responsive to global debates on the decolonization of Islamic studies, epistemic justice, and the autonomy of Islamic knowledge production. The journal increasingly encourages contributions that challenge inherited colonial frameworks and promote independent paradigms rooted in diverse Muslim intellectual and socio-historical experiences.

Accordingly, the journal prioritizes manuscripts addressing themes such as decolonial approaches to Islamic sciences, the reconstruction of Islamic epistemology, critiques of Eurocentrism in Islamic knowledge, postcolonial perspectives in Islamic thought, and the negotiation of authority and tradition in contemporary Muslim societies. Through this strengthened orientation, Tribakti aims not only to serve as a platform for normative and classical Islamic discourses, but also to foster innovative, context-sensitive, and globally relevant scholarly contributions in Islamic studies.
