Abstract

Twitter as a virtual public space, provides a place for people to express their perceptions, thoughts, and emotions about certain phenomena that are worthy of discussion in order to generate public sentiment. The case of Johnny Depp suing Amber Heard for domestic violence attracted public attention. The allegation, which was ultimately not proven by the facts of the case after Johnny Depp won the case, generated mixed public reactions on Twitter, which is one of the social media used by the public to share opinions. The research aims to reveal the public sentiment regarding the case of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in the declaration of victory in the defamation court on Twitter. Based on the influence of patriarchal culture in Indonesia, this public sentiment was generated. This research uses the laxicon method with the VADER sentiment analysis tool to classify the data set obtained by the researchers. The obtained sentiment analysis results were tested for the accuracy of tweet data classification using the confusion table matrix method. Based on the results of sentiment analysis of tweets on Twitter, it was found that the public tended to have high positive sentiment regarding the Johnny Depp case, namely 57% (373 tweets). This was followed by 30% (192 tweets) with negative sentiment and 13% (83 tweets) with neutral sentiment out of a total of 648 tweets. The accuracy value using the confusion matrix calculation was 0.774.
