This study aims to explore the leadership role of madrasa principals in optimising the management of Islamic religious education (PAI). PAI plays a strategic role in shaping the character and morality of students by integrating moral and spiritual values into the curriculum. The madrasah principal, as the main driver, has a great responsibility to develop effective management strategies to improve teacher professionalism, quality of learning and overall madrasah management. Through transformational leadership styles, madrasah principals are able to create a conducive learning environment, encourage innovation, and increase the involvement of all stakeholders, including teachers and parents. However, challenges such as limited resources, resistance to change and technological developments require innovative solutions. This research uses the literature review method to analyse various relevant sources, such as journals and books, to understand the contribution of leadership in improving the quality of PAI management. The results show that effective leadership of madrasah principals not only improves teacher competencies and student learning, but also plays an important role in addressing the challenges of modern education. This study provides strategic recommendations for the development of more effective PAI management policies in the future
