Author Guidelines

These “Al-Karim: International Journal of Quranic and Islamic Studies Author Guidelines” have been in effect since the 2023 issue. Use this checklist to ensure your manuscript is ready for submission. For more detailed information, refer to the Guidelines for Authors in Publication Ethics. By submitting a manuscript to the Al-Karim: International Journal of Quranic and Islamic Studies, authors retain their rights under the CC-BY-NC-SA license, which allows others to use, distribute, and modify the work under specific conditions.

Please:

  1. Review the Focus and Scope to determine if your manuscript aligns with the journal’s objectives.
  2. Use the provided Microsoft Word template for manuscript preparation.
  3. Address publication ethics, copyright, authorship, figure formatting, data handling, and reference formatting appropriately.
  4. Confirm that all authors have approved the submitted manuscript's content.
  5. Authors may include a short biography with their submission.

Manuscript Submission Overview

  • Publication Type: Manuscripts should be 5,000 to 7,000 words, providing enough detail for reproducibility. The Al-Karim: International Journal of Quranic and Islamic Studiespublishes only original articles, requiring comprehensive experimental data where applicable. Submissions must offer a sound analytical model, new insights, and meet the journal's criteria (refer to Focus and Scope). A double-blind review process will assess the quality and impact of the research. Manuscripts must not have been published or under consideration elsewhere.

Manuscript Submission Process

  • Manuscripts should be submitted online via the open journal system. The submitting author, usually the corresponding author, handles the submission and review process. They must ensure all eligible co-authors are listed and have approved the submission. Register on the submission website to submit your manuscript, and use the provided email to track manuscript details.

Accepted File Format

  • Use the Microsoft Word template to prepare manuscripts. If template use is problematic, contact the Editorial Office at ejournal.tribakti@gmail.com. Manuscripts must be submitted as single Microsoft Word files, with figures and tables placed near their first reference in the text. All identifying metadata must be removed before submission. Additional files can be submitted in various formats, with common, non-proprietary formats recommended.

Submission Format

  • The Al-Karim: International Journal of Quranic and Islamic Studies accepts free-format manuscripts but requires specific sections: Author Information, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Results and Discussion, Conclusions, Figures and Tables. Referencing should follow the Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition (full note) style, using tools like Mendeley for consistency (See Template).

Manuscript Preparation

  • General Considerations: Manuscripts should include:
    • Front page: Title, List of Authors, Affiliations, Abstract, Keywords.
    • Main sections: Introduction, Results, Discussion, Materials and Methods, Conclusion (optional).
    • Back section: References.
    • Define acronyms/abbreviations/initializations upon first use in the abstract, main text, and first figure or table. Arabic transliteration should be consistent unless symbols are used in citations.
  • Front Sections:
    • Title: Should be concise, relevant, and no longer than 20 words, centered at the top of the first page.
    • List of Authors and Affiliations: Include full names and affiliations; designate one corresponding author.
    • Abstract: A 200-250 word structured summary without headings, covering Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
    • Keywords: Three specific, yet general, keywords related to the article.
  • Research Paper Sections:
    • Introduction: Contextualize the research, define its purpose, significance, hypotheses, and objectives.
    • Results and Discussion: Present and interpret findings, relate them to existing research, discuss limitations, and suggest future research directions.
    • Conclusion: Optional; include if the discussion is complex or lengthy.

Bibliography

  • Supplementary Materials: Provide details on additional materials, such as figures, tables, and videos, with appropriate naming conventions (e.g., Figure S1, Table S1).
  • References: List references alphabetically, using the Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition. Utilize tools like Mendeley to ensure accuracy and consistency.

Preparing Figures, Schemes, and Tables

  • Provide figures and schematics in a single zip file at high resolution (minimum 1000 pixels or 300 dpi). Preferred formats include TIFF, JPEG, EPS, and PDF. Figures, schemes, and tables should be embedded close to their first mention in the text and numbered sequentially. Include explanatory titles and captions, with column headings in tables clearly defined. Use colour figures (RGB, 8-bits per channel) where applicable, as there is no extra charge for colour.
