Al-Karim: International Journal of Qur’anic and Islamic Studies is a high-quality, open-access, peer-reviewed international journal dedicated to advancing Qur’anic Studies and Hadith Studies within the broader field of Religious Studies. The journal promotes rigorous scholarship grounded in close textual analysis and attentive to historical, social, and cultural contexts. It approaches the Qur’an and Hadith as normative sources whose meanings are continuously interpreted and articulated across time and societies, and it examines them through historical-critical, hermeneutical, comparative, and socio-cultural perspectives. By connecting classical Islamic scholarship with modern realities, the journal provides a distinctive platform for global academic dialogue on Qur’anic and Hadith studies.

Scope

This journal focuses on theories, methods, and current issues in Qur’anic and Hadith Studies. Al-Karim welcomes manuscripts on the following topics:

  • Qur’anic and Hadith textual studies, including historiography, epigraphy, early manuscripts, and intertextual relations with the Biblical tradition

  • Interpretive approaches to the Qur’an and Hadith, encompassing classical tafsir traditions and the intellectual thought of classical Muslim scholars

  • Modern Qur’anic and Hadith thought, including reformist, hermeneutical, and critical approaches developed by modern Muslim thinkers

  • Contemporary Qur’anic and Hadith studies, covering global and Indonesian Muslim scholars, with attention to social, ethical, institutional, and cultural contexts
